"A Poorman's Galaxy"

1991-1997

A sound sculpture which explores visual and conceptual relationships among the symbolic elements of musical notation, specifically lines and circles. The sculpture consists of found metal objects that are suspended from a cylindrical wire lattice creating a visual musical score in space (a drawing in 3 dimensions). The suspended objects function as a "wind chime" which is activated by the oscillating fans placed in front of and within the sculpture.

The piece is lite by a single spotlight attached to an oscillating fan creating with the movement a cinematic character as shadows from the moving objects fade in and out.

The piece has been shown in various spaces and each time reconfigured to the site and often utilizing locally found objects.
